IMPLODING BODIES
by Yohana Girma Gebre
(Inspired by Notebook of a Return to the Native Land by Aimée Césaire)
At the end
of the small hours
the mourn forgotten forgetful of
exploding.
Days marked
by small mementos /faded/ \rusted\ through
like a white cross
marking the graves.
The healing house that held them
lay unearthed
through the church bells’ wailing
waiting for the next explosion.
